Russia slaps 35% duty on hygiene goods from unfriendly states

MOSCOW, Dec 12 (PRIME) -- The Russian government has set a 35% import duty on some goods, including shampoos and antiperspirants from the unfriendly states, according to a document seen by PRIME on the website for legal acts on December 9.

"The proposed rates of import duties for some goods coming from the states and territories taking measures that violate economic interests of the Russian Federation… shall be approved until December 31," according to an order signed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.

According to the Industry and Trade Ministry, the list of goods was made taking into account availability of analogs of the same quality in the country and includes toothpaste, shaving foam and household chemicals. The list also includes civil weapons and shells.

The ministry also said that no complete prohibition of perfume and cosmetics imports from the unfriendly states and no increase of duties on the goods not produced in sufficient quantities in Russia was planned.

Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko told channel Rossiya 24 on December 9 that Moscow will retaliate the new package of E.U. sanctions after analyzing it, which will be done on the coming week.
